Class Descriptions
Acro Arts—Focus on fundamental acrobatic technique, such as front and back walkovers, chin stands, hand balancing, and other contortion tricks. Emphasis will be placed on improving flexibility, balance, strength, & concentration. At a level III, students will learn advanced tricks such as back/front handsprings, arabians, ariels, and more. All levels will learn and perform a collaborative piece in the spring recital. Class placement will be at your instructor’s discretion.
Adult Ballet—For students 18+. All levels welcome. Adult ballet focuses on exercises, techniques and steps of classical ballet with an emphasis on terminology, correct body alignment, and strengthening. Includes a warm-up at the barre with center floor work and combinations.
Adult Jazz—For students 18+. All levels welcome. Focus on strength, flexibility, conditioning, technique and progressions including turns, kicks and leaps.
Adult (Advanced) Tap—For students 18+ who have had at least 2 years of tap as an adult. This class will sharpen reflexes, improve memory skills and enhance coordination. Classes will work toward continuing to perfect fundamental tap movements & vocabulary but will work toward more advanced syncopated rhythms and steps that progress into challenging dance combinations.
Adult (Beginner) Tap—For students 18+. This class will sharpen reflexes, improve memory skills and enhance coordination. Classes will work toward establishing fundamental tap movements, vocabulary and will work on basic rhythms and steps that progress into fun dance combinations.
Toddler Time (SUMMER)— For students 15 mos - 2 years of age. Assisted by their guardian in attendance, students will be introduced to the class setting; learning how to participate in a classroom environment, including taking turns and sharing props. This class offers an introduction of valuable skills such as listening, taking turns, standing in line, following directions, and much more!
Combination Classes (AUG-MAY)—Combination classes consist of Tap, Ballet, and Acro. Level 3 students will have Jazz added to this combination of genres. It is HIGHLY encouraged, based on our traditional school of thought, that each student takes combined classes. Education and exposure to tap, ballet, jazz, and acro are key to a well-rounded, well balanced, and most educated dancer. Click HERE to learn more about this. Beginner students 13+ may take style specific classes only but must choose at minimum 2 areas of study.
Preschool & Kinder Dance Camp (SUMMER)— This course will encourage the exploration of movement using music and props to develop physical skills while channeling energy in a healthy way to nurture creative minds. This class will strengthen the imagination by engaging their visual, auditory, kinesthetic, and tactile senses as they learn about their body and the space around them. Students will be introduced to basic acro skills focusing on flexibility, balance, strength, & concentration.
Hip Hop—These upbeat classes will introduce the latest styles of street dancing and combine them with jazz funk. Classes will encourage students to step outside of the box by bringing their own individual style and personality to the movements. Students will learn the history of the genre of hip hop as well as how culture influences the ever changing world of dance. All levels will learn and perform a collaborative piece in the spring recital. Class placement will be at your instructor’s discretion.
Improv—For students ages 9+. This course has been designed to bring awareness to the body. Classes will involve engaging in improvisational exercises, led and freestyle, to heighten awareness, broaden individual movement vocabulary and encourage an emotional connection to music and lyrics. This class also introduces basic partnering skills and often encourages small scale performance opportunities.
Contemporary—For students ages 9+. This class will focus on technique while combining the strong but controlled legwork of ballet with modern that stresses on torso. It also employs contract release, floor work, fall & recovery, and improvisation characteristics of modern dance. Students will also be introduced to basic partnering skills.
Jazz Study (SUMMER)—For students 7+. A strong emphasis on energy, rhythmical accuracy & style. Focus on strength, flexibility, conditioning, technique and progressions including turns, kicks and leaps.
Lyrical—For students ages 9+.This class combines elements of ballet and jazz to create a soft style that emphasizes storytelling through music. An emphasis is placed on grace, fluidity, musicality, and expressiveness to capture emotion through movement.
Pointe Intensive—Anyone planning to transition to pointe shoes within the next two years, is encouraged to take this class. If your student is a current pointe student, participation is required to continue en pointe.
Tap Boot Camp (SUMMER)—For students 7+ wanting to brush up on their tap skills; perfect for older beginner students desiring to catch up in their combination class. Focus on rhythm, syncopation, and sound in addition to coordination. An emphasis is placed on musicality, expression, and improvisation.
